About Off The Eaten Path
Off The Eaten Path (OTEP) is dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the vibrant food culture and diverse culinary community in Halifax and beyond. Our mission is to highlight unique food businesses, share inspiring stories, and create engaging food experiences for our growing audience. We are seeking a passionate and creative Designer Intern to join our team and help us elevate our programming, expand our reach, and connect with more food lovers.
Position Overview
As our Designer Intern, you will be responsible for creating and crafting small to medium structures for upcoming projects and creating online contents, such as social media videos etc. You will put your creativity and hands-on skills to new projects in OTEP to enhance food culture and diversity in the community. Your goal is to design a physical structure for the new program and to create impactful messaging through video contents as part of OTEP.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing:
- Develop unique designs for new projects including small to medium sized structures, interior designs, and video contents.
- Crafting:
- Craft a physical structure that you designed for OTEP’s new projects that are coming up with volunteers.
- Program Development:
- Support the Project Coordinator to develop the program management plans for new projects.
- Internal Communications:
- Communicate with the team members, volunteers, and the stakeholders to establish projects.
- External Communications:
- Create video contents to enhance social media contents and interact with community through online platforms
- Community Engagement:
- Engage with potential users (i.e., business owners) of new programs to understand their needs and incorporate their ideas into designs and crafts.
Skills & Qualification
This position is only open to candidates who have Canadian citizenship or a Permanent Residence of Canada as it is funded by Canada Summer Jobs.
- Experience: : 1+ years in architectural or/and structure design.
- Creativity: Strong creative skills with the ability to develop unique ideas for upcoming projects.
- Crafting Skills: Excellent in designing and crafting small to medium scale structures.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with essential design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite etc.) and other documentation tools (e.g., Google Doc, etc.).
- Communication Skills: Excellent in written and verbal communication skills to explain about the program and to communicate through video contents.
- Writing Skills: Excellent in writing skills to document designs and creating captions for video contents.
- Time Management: Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Team Player: Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a small and passionate team.
