Position Summary

The Marketing & Storytelling Coordinator helps share the stories, people, and experiences that bring The Wave Placemaking's programs to life.

Working across Taste Asia Food & Culture Festival, Off The Eaten Path, food literacy initiatives, workshops, and community events, this role is responsible for creating engaging content, growing online communities, and helping tell the stories of the people, cultures, and places that make our work meaningful.

This position is ideal for someone interested in social media, digital marketing, storytelling, photography, videography, communications, or community engagement.

Key Objectives

The successful candidate will help:

  • Grow audience engagement across The Wave's platforms
  • Increase visibility for Taste Asia and Off The Eaten Path
  • Create compelling content that reflects diverse cultures and communities
  • Support event and program promotion
  • Document community stories and experiences
  • Build stronger connections between people and place through storytelling

Responsibilities

Social Media Management

  • Assist in managing social media accounts including:
    • Taste Asia Festival
    • Off The Eaten Path
    • The Wave Placemaking
  • Develop and maintain content calendars
  • Schedule and publish content across multiple platforms
  • Monitor engagement and community interactions
  • Stay informed on emerging social media trends and platform updates

Content Creation

  • Create short-form videos, reels, stories, and photo content
  • Support photography and videography during events and workshops
  • Conduct interviews with participants, vendors, artists, volunteers, and community members
  • Capture behind-the-scenes content and community stories
  • Assist with graphic design and promotional materials

Storytelling & Communications

  • Write social media captions, blog posts, newsletters, and website content
  • Help tell stories that highlight cultural diversity, food, creativity, and community connections
  • Support storytelling campaigns for Taste Asia and other initiatives
  • Assist with media and promotional outreach where appropriate

Event & Program Support

  • Attend workshops, markets, festivals, and community events to create content
  • Assist with live social media coverage
  • Support event promotions before, during, and after programs

Ideal Candidate

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and other social media platforms
  • Basic photography, videography, or graphic design skills
  • Comfortable creating content using a smartphone and editing software
  • Creative thinker with strong attention to detail
  • Passion for storytelling and community engagement

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada

International students are not eligible under the Canada Summer Jobs Program.
